THE MAGIC
OF
GOALS
Sweat Fitness Center
THE KEY TO BECOMING ALL YOU WERE INTENDED TO BE.
THE PURPOSE...
The purpose of this book is to provide the trigger
for getting you from where and what you are, to where you want to
go and what you would like to become. The fact that you are reading
these words is a good indicator that you feel you need to change
some part of your life. Perhaps you've had it with being over
weight, or tired and lacking motivation or having to apologize to
your children for not having the energy to play with them after
work. The continuation of this type of problem will not likely
change until you've changed, and unless you do, you may find the
problem has taken its toll in some other areas of your life as
well.
If while reading these words, you are satisfied that
finances are not a problem, then read on , for surely, having
adequate money is no assurance of happiness. If your wife or
husband is no longer providing joy in your life then you're not
successful. If you don't like your occupation or if its controlling
an excessive amount of your time, you're not successful. If you're
overweight and you often feel depressed and are considered over
weight, your not successful.
In essence, if you are not at a point in your life that you
expected to reach at an earlier age, then you've gotten off track.
If Friday is more important than Monday then you've gotten off
track. If you're not paid what you think your worth, or if you have
more talent then your present job lets you use then you are off
track.
The key...
The key to "getting back" lies in setting your own
well defined business and personal goals. If you don't have them
written down at this moment in a form that you review each day, and
constantly carry with you, then your life is going to be a series
of unconnected events.... accidental occurrences! The chance of you
becoming all you were intended to be is remote, without goals. You
will continue to drift, being blown by the winds of circumstance
and always fitting into the plans of someone else.
This book is designed to change all aspects of your life, but
reading is not enough. Deciding to work on it, or complete it
tomorrow, or next week is not enough. Your going to have to
reschedule appointments, or revise your schedule, or what ever it
takes, right now! It's going to take you about 4 hours and maybe
much, much more.
There will never be the "right time" if your to busy today,
then you'll be to busy tomorrow. This moment is to critical in your
life to set off. Don't bother to read any further unless you've
made the firm commitment to complete the task.
If you're committed then turn the page, if not then quit
right now and place this book on the shelf with all the other
partially read books that you have bought with good intentions. Go
on to the office, turn on the tv, go out on the patio, or whatever
else turns you on, but don't waste your time. It's results that
count, not good intentions; decisions, not procrastination; action,
not mental laziness.
For those of you who hold a pencil in your hand at
this very moment... congratulations! For those of you who just
simply turned the page out of curiosity, or for some other casual
reason, please save your time. What you're about to read will have
absolutely no value, because it isn't meant to read; it's meant to
stimulate your thinking through your answers to some rather probing
questions.
The pages which follow must be completed by you, while alone, and
with enough time to answer in detail. There is no "proper answers"
or amount of time for any question. Simply spend enough time for
you to feel comfortable with the result.
Hopefully, you've selected a comfortable place free
from interruption by telephones, family members or friends, or any
other distraction which will break your concentration or cause you
to drift away from your personal reelings about yourself and your
reflections into your past and glimpses into your future. Lets
begin now to rediscover those feelings we once had about life.
YOUR PERSONAL GOALS
NOTE: The following guidelines must be followed in preparing
your personal list of goals on the following page.
1. Do not consider prices, or other obstacles in preparing your
goal list. They should be your spontaneous wishes, much like a
child preparing a Christmas list.
2. Write as fast as possible. You'll find the list will develop
slowly in the beginning, but after a short time, ideas will come to
the surface, which you haven't thought of in years.
3. Impose a limit on yourself. Try to achieve one hundred items
within a 30 min. period from the time you begin.
4. The items, which you write in response to the first question,
should include:
A. The things you want to have
B. Things you want to see
C. Things you want for someone else
D. Places you would like to visit
E. Things about yourself (weight loss etc.)
5. Remember, the list should include things that you want that
you do not now have.
6. There is no need to be specific during the preparation of
your list. For example, a new Mercedes Benz need not include all of
the accessories, or color. This will come later under a different
section of this book.
Now, turn the page, read the first question, and
begin "planning your better future".
#1 WHA T DO YOU WANT TO ACQUIRE, BECOME,
SEE, GET, AND DO IN THE NEXT 10 Years.

The following points must be reviewed before the next step in
the goal setting exercise.
1. The next question is rather "negatively oriented". Very often
we don't want to take time and confront things the way they really
are, So we coast through life under a kind of mental anesthesia,
hoping that "things" will change.
2. In response to the second question it is imperative that you be
honest with yourself, even though it may be painful. Very often,
people can't get "turned on" through setting there goals because
lite, and there accumulated mistakes in life, have them to"turned
off".
3. The length of your next list is unimportant-it is your honesty
that is all-important! Please turn the page and begin supplying
your answers to the second question.
What things ( items, situations, habits, etc. ) do you
have that you don't want anymore?

You've now made two major steps in the right
direction- you've rediscovered many things that will make life more
meaningful, and you've forced yourself to the painful recognition
of those situations in your life that have held you back. The
challenge for you will now be yours to take the steps to acquire
those items on the first list, and to make whatever decisions are
necessary to eliminate the items on the second list.
Experience has shown that by concentrating on the
goals, the obstacles (more often than not) automatically disappear.
For example, a company in need of investment capital should
concentrate on increasing sales, which is a worthy and positive
goal. It rewards all those who participate, and the profits
generated by increased sales activity automatically generate the
money necessary for expansion.
Learn to identify an item on list number two (the
obstacle list) and then find it's nearest opposite on the positive
side (list number one), then go for the goal. The obtaining of the
positive goal nearly always cancels out its nearest equivalent on
the negative side.
Be careful that you don't become preoccupied with the negative list
or obstacles. The attitudes, feelings, and enthusiasm generated by
concentrating on obstacles often prevent us from becoming "the kind
of person it takes to get all that we want".
NOTE: The following points must be understood
before going to the next question.
All of us have many goals - once we begin to look
closely at our lives. Right now, you are among the five percent
percent of the American people who have defined what they really
want in life - and who have some idea of what they want to
become.
You must begin now, however to separate goals into
short term and long term goals. Before long term goals can be
achieved, usually many short range items must be achieved first.
For example if a person wishes to become president of his or her
present company, certain other levels of achievement and change
must occur between where you now are and where you want to get to.
To use another example a person who is over weight and unhappy may
set a goal that will provide him or her with 55 lost pounds in 7
months. That could be a rather stimulating and long range goal, but
perhaps this person should go after the short range goal of first
losing one pound, and getting rid of people who constantly
criticize him and effect his attitude and excitement- which then
affect his ability to improve his circumstances.
Remember, we must begin by identifying those few goals
which we want more then any other, and they should be goals which
we can achieve in the immediate future. In truth, the achievement
of short term goals provides us with the confidence and reassurance
that we are making positive measurable progress, and moving toward
the ultimate attainment of the bigger, and longer range goals.
Turn now to the next page and begin the next step which is to
identify your short Term Goals
Quite often, we decide upon a worthy objective and
then discover that we don't really want what we thought we wanted
at an earlier date. Sometimes we discover this only after we're so
committed to a project that we cannot change our course.
For example, a young man at eighteen years of age may
decide to become a journalist. He spends several years in collage,
completing his studies, enters his profession, and then at an early
age discovers that he doesn't like his profession. To change now
would be difficult, so his dream of becoming a noted journalist has
now become a" job "... a means of earning a living.
The problem the man has is that he committed himself to a lifetime
profession at an age where he lacked the maturity or life
experience to really know what it was he wanted to do. His dream
has become a rut, and his rut will one day become a grave into
which he will cast his dreams of earlier years.
The purpose of the next step is to convince yourself
that you really want the four priority items which you selected in
the previous step. Remember, you won't always get everything you
want, but you must want everything that you get if you are to
discover happiness.
If you've "talked yourself out of" your earlier
decisions, you should congratulate yourself for having saved
precious months or even years of your life. Quite often, by mearly
writing detailed feelings that you have regarding a situation or a
goal, you'll discover insights of incredible value.
Learn to catch the habit of a daily journal into which you take the
time to record your life and life's events. Remember, problems are
solved through discussion and communication, but there really
solved by the deliberate human effort of detailed self-expression
through writing.
If you've changed your mind regarding your four priority goals - or
even if you didn't -reenter the four items once again on this
page.
I have committed myself to the attainment of the following four
short range personal goals (in order of priority).

Review the following before proceeding to the next
step.
Someone once said - "Don't let your awareness of past failures rob
you of the opportunity for future accomplishments."
Another writer said- "Happiness is seldom that
which you experience, but is often that which you remember."
To enhance our future success, we must occasionally pause to remind
ourselves of our accomplishments. We must constantly feel good
about ourselves- genuinely and sincerely good!
Lets pause now, and review our earlier accomplishments. Please turn
the page and begin step 6.
What are some of the things you are really proud
of?

Review the following before proceeding to the next question.
All of us want things to get better- to earn more,
see more, to lose weight or find greater happiness and peace of
mind. But to attract more we must become more. Losing weight does
not come by wishing; it comes by changing... by changing our
attitudes, our habits, our wardrobe, or our environment. If we
don't change what we are, we'll always be just about what we
are!
All of us need to change - we cannot live without
developing limiting habits, opinions, or acquaintances along the
way. The next question is designed to make us look at
ourselves, for surely, "as a man thinketh in his heart, so he
becomes".
What kind of person would it take to get all that I
want?

Please read carefully before completing the concluding
question.
The beginning of achieving is in the believing.
Some people use the word "visualization"... the ability to see,
feel touch, and to be touched by, the future. Humans must
constantly live in high expectations of an improved future. We must
become aware that each achievement opens new doors to previously
unthought of plans and goals.
A prophet of earlier days wrote "without a vision
people parish", and another said "pity the man who has no money,
pity the man who has no dream".
A major part of our ability to achieve our goals lies in how well
we develop our ability to accept our improved future - even before
our dream has become reality! We must close our eyes, and visit -
ever so briefly, what we hope to have and see and become. We must
mentally "see", and "believe" ourselves to already be in possession
of that for what we hope for. We must live in the emotion, taste
the excitement, breath the air - letting all the sensory
occurrences that will some day touch us, be ours now, even if for a
brief second. We must see ourselves there!
And finally, we must then return to the present, for our improved
future shall surely be determined by what we do with the present.
But... we must return to the present with the emotions reserved for
us in the future. We must bring something of the future into our
present. "See" yourself as you will one day be, and then become
that kind of person. Have that excitement, smile, and zest...
now!
What will that person be like - how must you be? The answer lies in
your response to the next question.
8. How will you feel (emotionally) when you finally achieve
all that you want?

The magic of goals is now working for you . . . but
there are some cautions. The human tendency will be for you to
slowly, but certainly slide back into your normal routine of
accepting things as they are. The childish excitement that you've
awakened within yourself will once again want to lie down and rest.
. . and then return to sleep. You will be tempted to by life's
events, relatives, and neighbors to abandon your search for the
better life. Remember mediocre is easy, which is why most people
accept mediocrity.
I challenge you to renew your commitment to high
achievement each day of your life . . . from this day forward. You
are now all that you need to become in order to get all that you
want. There are however, certain things that you must be aware of.
First, learn the value of patience. Human change takes time.
Progress is often slow, and sometimes discouraging, but with
patience, and human effort, progress is always automatic.
Second, learn the value of discipline. Develop the
discipline to read, plan, share, and grow. Examine your self
closely everyday, and consider the effect your having on other
people. If the effect is bad , the results will be less then you
will want, so look closely, and often at" how you are". The world
will begin to pull harder at you then ever before, those close to
you will begin to steal away your time, and your commitment will be
tested by the lure of television and countless other worldly
attractions. Relax, enjoy, and socialize - yes! But only when your
discipline to work on your goals has justified your reward.
Finally learn to discipline your disappointment.
Remember - you won't always get every thing you want, but you must
want every thing you get. Keep your attention not on the obstacles,
but on the goals. Continue to look into your better future , but
always take the time to look into today. When disappointment seizes
you, tell yourself "this to shall pass".
Let nothing distract you from your goals! Be "in the world, but not
of it". Be aware of what you are, but never be willing to settle
for that - seek to become all that you were intended to become.
That is the ultimate challenge of life. Go to work on your
goals each day, and your goals will automatically go to work on
you. Your rewards will be worth the effort.
Best regards,
Dan
YOU WILL BE PUSHED FORWARD BY TIME AND LIFE AND CIRCUMSTANCES,
OR YOU WILL BE PULLED FORWARD BY YOUR GOALS.
